Aldo Sandoval-Hernández, PhD
Hello,
My name is Aldo Sandoval-Hernández. I have a PhD in Economics from the University of Western Ontario. Currently, I am an economic advisor at ISED Canada. Previously, I worked at the Office of the Chief Economist at Global Affairs Canada, and before that, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Sussex.
My research interests are in International Trade, Economic Geography, and Spatial Econometrics. In particular, I focus on the dynamics of new exporters, firm-level responses to external shocks, the evaluation of transportation infrastructure, and the modeling of spatial autocorrelation.
I have extensive experience solving and estimating heterogeneous agent models of firm dynamics, estimating spatial econometric models, and implementing bootstrapping methods. More recently, I have been incorporating deep learning, natural language processing, and text analysis into my research.
